Green Deal Training

Funding for Green Deal Training

In March 2012 CITB-ConstructionSkills added £500,000 from its Growth Fund to a £2m investment from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), to train workers with skills to install solid wall insulation under the Green Deal. Further details on the scheme will be published on this page shortly.

Insulation and Building Treatments Trainer Resource Manuals

A series of manuals have been developed as an additional resource for organisations including schools, colleges, training providers, trade organisations, manufacturers, installation contractors and individuals who may be interested in a career in, or change of career to the insulation sector.

The manuals can be used for information, learning and development purposes so anyone can access and use some or all of the manuals and the information contained within them. They also support specialist technical information and training resources available through manufacturers, trade associations and training providers.

The Manuals are free to download and cover the following insulation areas:

TRM152/1:    Loft Insulation
TRM152/3:    Draught Proofing
TRM152/4/2: External Wall Insulation
TRM152/6:    Roofing Insulation

Each manual provides an overview of:
The Green Deal
Health and safety legislation relevant to the job
Health and safety risks, assessment, responsibilities and management
Personal Equipment used to protect individuals
Tools, equipment and materials used on the job
Good customer and installer care and communication
Examples of approaches to preparation, installation and completion of the job

Getting the right skills will open up great opportunities for the individuals who gain them.

Green Accreditations

In terms of refurbishment and retrofitting you will benefit from qualifications that are currently available and include:

Apprenticeships

A lot of the work associated with the construction of new homes and the refurbishment of the existing building stock involves considerable input from specialist contractors. Call us on 0344 994 4044 to talk to us about the range of new specialist apprenticeships available from CITB-ConstructionSkills' National Specialist Accredited Centre (NSAC) that are being used in this type of work. This includes areas such as Solid Wall Insulation, Heritage Skills and Cold Formed Steel Frame Systems and take a look at our full range of  apprenticeships. If there isn't an apprenticeship to suit your needs, we'll work with you to create one.

Additional support in Wales

Through the Delivering Low Carbon Skills project, employers in Wales will be able to access subsidised accredited training which links to the drive for low carbon construction in the nation. For skills development, there is also an Eco Home Building Centre based in Cardiff, the British Gas Academy based in Tredegar and the Sustainable Construction Centre at Pembrokeshire College.
